The Republican philosophy is a true reflection of traditional Texas values. Our core conservative
principles have served the test of time and become the foundation of our proud Texas heritage. It
is these traditional values—core Republican principles—which will sustain Texas into the next
century and continue to make our state strong, prosperous, and proud.
Limited government
A government that will promote policies to unlock individual potential and unleash economic growth.
Government that does not try to be all things to all people. Government that exists to do only a few
things, and do them well. A government that does not promote policies that stifle the entrepreneurial
spirit of the individual, but instead, serves to promote policies that will allow all individuals the
opportunity to succeed. A government that does what it should—not all that it can.
Strong families
Families intent on giving their children the hope of a better tomorrow, the promise of a safe and secure
today, and an appreciation and respect of yesterday. Parents that teach their children the values of
discipline, hard work, and personal responsibility. Traditional families that constitute a mother and a
father, not same-sex marriages that promote an unhealthy lifestyle in the name of choice. Single mothers
and fathers struggling alone yet raising their children with traditional values and strong principles that
will give them the opportunity to find success in the future.
Opportunity for all
Equal opportunity should be extended to all citizens regardless of race or religion. Equal opportunity is
a right and privilege - equal outcome is not. Texans expect the opportunity to chart one's own course - start
a business, chase a dream, or build a life—without the threat of a government that will punish success. Texans
deserve an opportunity to try and maybe fail, but try again.
Personal responsibility
With freedom comes responsibility and individuals must take personal responsibility for their own actions and
our criminal justice system must be based on this idea. Responsibility to take care of ourselves, and our children,
our families and our future without governmental interference.
Rugged individualism
The entrepreneurial spirit of the individual, unencumbered by a meddlesome government, is what built this state into
the worlds' 11th largest economic power that it is today. And it is individuals, proud Texans, each able to chart
their own course that will carry Texas into the next century.
Uncommon leadership
Texans demand and deserve leaders with dynamic energy, bold new ideas, and unrestrained hope. Leaders with an
understanding of Texas' heritage, a clear vision for Texas' future, and a bold plan to get us there. Leadership
that is unwavering in the face of criticism, steadfast when confronted with adversity, and committed to build a
better state. Leaders that are unafraid to take chances and try new ideas for the betterment of Texas.
Honest compassion
Honest compassion is understanding the best way to help those in need is not necessarily to throw more money at
the problem. Texans have always believed in helping those in need find new ways to help themselves. Honest compassion
understands the difference between government trying to make life easier for those in need, or helping them to make
their own lives better.
Quality education
Education is the bedrock of freedom and the gateway to opportunity. Education should have high standards and no excuses
so that today's children are prepared for tomorrow's workplace. An educational system that emphases the basics. An
educational system that teaches all students to read, write, and understand the English language so that all children,
regardless of race, may have an equal opportunity to succeed in the United States. Quality education that does not
discriminate because of race, wealth or geography. Education that will provide Texas children with the best schools in America.
Freedom
Freedom that is God given. Freedom that was intended by our Founding Fathers, articulated in the Declaration of Independence,
and is protected by the Constitution. This country was founded on the fundamental principle that individuals have certain rights
and freedoms, which cannot be infringed upon and may be restricted only to the degree necessary to preserve the rights of others.
Texans understand that freedom is not, and never has been, free.
Traditional Texas values. Core Republican principles.
